Torree Theodore is a native of Macon, Georgia. She is a Spring 2024 graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She is a current Master’s of Social Work candidate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is concentrating in Community, Management, and Policy Practice. She is also a proud 2020 graduate of Howard High School.

In 2018, Torree established an organization called Change Matters.Torree learned about the concept of currency exchange rates at an early age and wanted to give back in a way that would fuel the economy of the area that was receiving the funds. Change Matters collects USD coins and sends those funds to countries overseas to assist students and families. Change Matters is currently serving individuals and families in Black River, Jamaica.

She also served as a peer mentor at Macedonia Baptist Church’s After School Program. This is where she discovered her passion for empowering the youth and those around her. This prompted her to continue her passion for service. During her time at North Carolina A&T State University, she was elected to serve as the 89th Miss North Carolina A&T State University. During her reign, she was able to push her platform of “Aggie Elementary: Rooted in History” to amplify the importance of advocacy, education, and legacy preservation at her HBCU.

She was able to represent her University all across the country. She was able to attend the World Premiere of The Color Purple in Los Angeles in partnership with Warner Brothers. She also competed in the Miss National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Pageant in Atlanta, GA, where she placed 3rd runner-up and earned the community service award.

As Miss Black Georgia, Torree promotes her platform “Open Doors: Unlocking Potential”. Her platform aims to provide and advocate for educational resources and exposure to developmental opportunities, with an emphasis on youth literacy proficiency. She believes in the power of empowerment and wants everyone to have access to the tools they need to be successful.

When Torree is not serving her community or in the school books, you can probably find her painting or trying a new DIY project!
